- The story took place during the 1870s in Jefferson, Mississippi after the Civil War. It was a small town leading everyone to know each other and gossip about each other's business which did happen with the Grierson family.
- Learning about Miss Emily's house and how it was described by the townspeople allows the audience to gain and form a better visual understanding of where she was living in the town of Mississippi. It was a "squarish frame house that had been white" which overtime got old and worn out. Her house was the only one left standing in their neighborhood.
- After Miss Emily died, a group of people went into this region room where they found Homer Barron's dead body and a "stand of iron-gray hair" that had been from Miss Emily herself leading the audience to conclude that she killed him with the arsenic poison she previously purchased from the druggist. She didn't want him to leave her side so this was the only way she thought of keeping him the closest to her.
