  • Habsburgs, Catholics, and Protests all fought for more power which raised tensions between the states.
  • IMPERIAL AUTHORITY
  • During the Bohemian phase, the Catholic League and the Protestant Union over religious liberty and independence from the Habsburg rule.
  • During the Danish phase, there were many Catholic victories, leading General Wallenstein to quarrel with the Catholic League. This disagreement divided Catholic forces. 1629 marked the peak of Habsburg power.

  • Agriculture, trade, and commerce
  • During the Swedish phase, Gustavo Adolphus arrived in Germany. The Swedish victories ended the Habsburg ambitions uniting all German states under Imperial Authority. 
  • During the French phase of the war, the French began to join the Protestant side of the war. German agriculture and commerce were looted, burned, or destroyed. The Peace of Westphalia Treaty marked peace between the countries in 1648.

  • The Thirty Years' War left Germany with famine and disease. The famine and disease depopulated Germany. It also caused disaster for the society and economy of Germany. Trade, commerce, and agriculture were greatly affected in a negative way.
