Storyboard Text

  • Approaching Vera cruz
  • welcoming of Spaniards
  • Festival of Toxcatl
  • Cortes came to Vera Cruz with ships full of Spaniards. All were armed and ready to find gold, glory, and god. they were welcomed by 20,000 natives with gifts and gold. Based on a myth they thought he was their new god.
  • Massacre
  • Cortes and his men marched to the gates of Tenochtitlan where he was going to meet Moctezuma. They both negotiate and discuss the leadership of his civilization.
  • Death of Moctezuma
  • The natives started their annual festival with chanting and drums and different clothes. This festival was a normal thing to celebrate except for the Spaniards presence.
  • Aftermath
  • The Spaniards got scared of the native's actions during the festival and felt threatened.   • Moctezuma's people thought he was a cruel leader and didn't like that there weren't going to be any changes in leadership. They took matters into their own hands and killed Moctezuma by throwing stones at him.
  • Unfortunately, the natives became Cortes's slaves. They had no freedom or rights and they lost most of their culture. They eventually died because of small pox and other sickness.
