- The play begins with the brief appearance of a trio of witches, Thunder and lightning crash above a scottish moor, three haggard old women, appear out of the storm chanting tones thy make plans to meet again after the battlr to confront Macbeth an duncan.
- Lady Macbeth reads the letter

- The Scottish King Duncan hears the news that his generals, Macbeth and Banquo, have defeated two separate invading armies—one from Ireland, led by the rebel Macdonwald, and one from Norway.
- Macbeth´s arrival

- On their way back from battle, Macbeth and his friend Banquo meet three witches on the heath. The witches make three prophecies: Macbeth will become the Thane of Cawdor; Macbeth will become king; and Banquo’s children will be kings.
