Storyboard Text

  • My name is James Madison, and I will help explain the creation of the Decleration of Independence
  • My name is Eric, and I will be walking you through the days of early America.
  • These people are the people who wrote the Decaleration of Independence. The Decleration of Independence was a document outlining their grievances against England, and how they should be doing more for their people than they currently were. They shipped it off to King George to read.
  • The King was not very happy to receive this, but was pretty sure that the colonies government would fail, and he could swoop back in to pick up the pieces.
  • Unfortunatly for King George, the colonists had thought up a system call the Articles of Confederation. These were a set of precarious rules to keep the new country together. Shortly after this, there was a meeting of congress to discuss the Virginia and New Jersey plans...
  • These men, William Patterson, John Adams, and several others are here to debate the Virginia Plan and The New Jersey Plan. The Virginia plan stated that states would have repersentation based on size, where as the New Jersey plan says that all states should have equal repersentation everywhere. Both states agreed on the Connecticut Compromise, which means that there is equal repersentation in House, and repersentation based on population in the Senate.
  • Another two important ideas America used was Separation of Powers and Different Branches of Government. Seperation of Powers meant that all of the different branches of government; see below, are all on top of each other, and none of them have absolute power over the country or one another. In America, there are also 3 Branches of Government; Judicial, Executive, and Legislative. An easy way to memorize these are that Legislative makes the laws, Executive enforces the laws, and the Judical Branch interprets the laws.
