- PATHOS
- This line gives the recipient of the letter the reality of being an African American in the south during the 60's. This line gives very graphic examples that will make the reader really feel what MLK was feeling,
- This fact lets the recipient of the letter know how long the African American community has fought for their rights and that they will continue to fight until all men and women are actually treated equally despite their race
- LOGOS
- We have waited for more than 350 years for our constitutional and God-given rights
- This line tells the recipient of the letter that the nonviolent approach that the civil rights activists are using, isn't working. He is letting the reader know there are other ways to fix this problem and this line is giving them a reason as to why this isn't working.
- ETHOS
- Nonviolent direction action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue
