One major theme in the Monsters Are Due On Maple Street story is violence doesn't solve problems .Throughout the story there were many examples of how violence doesn't solve problems. For example one reason is that when the power shut off and none of the cars worked except for Mr.Goodmans car, everyone was suspicious of him. On page 74, Mr. Good mand tells everyone to keep their distance from him. He felt that they were going to attack him only becuase his car worked. This is an example of how violence towards Mr.Goodman would not have solved the problem. Another example of how violence doesent solve problems is when Charlie shoots Pete Van Horn. On page 78 Charlie becomes very violent. He tells Steve to stop talking because he thinks it wont solve the problem.Lastly at the end of the story and page 82 everyone begins to panic. At this point Don says "Charlie has to be the one--wheres my rifle--".Don was becoming violent because he wanted to shoot charlie, which this would not have solved the problem. These are my examples of the story that showed violence did not solve anything.
