Women Joining WW2

Storyboard Text

  • I want to help.
  • On the 3rd of September, 1939, Australia had announced their will to participate in World War 2. This resulted in utilising and expanding current military forces in Australia, with the law of conscripting being reinforced in November 1939. This meant that it was compulsory for males between the ages of 18-60 to join the war. Australia's economy was put at risk with around 400,000 men fighting in the frontlines, and no staff in significant jobs. Women were left to sit by and observe from their homes, unable to contribute.
  • Due to the lack of filled position in labour jobs and low demanding jobs, women were provided the opportunity to take over these roles and aid in maintaining stability within the economy. This allowed women to partake in jobs which they had no previous access to. Therefore, women acquired new skills and gained higher responsibility in society. This led for a bigger strive for independence and an urge to volunteer for the war. Women had the courage to do more than just work in jobs but also serve in the military.
  • On March 1941, Australian women had began to enlist in the war with an established women's airforce, army service, medical service and naval service. WW2 was significant to providing more opportunities for women in society as they were capable of taking jobs that helped maintain the Australian economy.
