  • Lewis and Clark expedition
  • GOAL:~Explore obtained land~ To survey the Missouri and Columbia rivers, locating routes that would connect the continental interior to the Pacific Ocean.
  • Interactions with the Native Americans
  • Lewis and Clark met a Native American women, who accompanied them for most of their journey. Her name was Sacagawea. She was their translator and helped with her knowledge of terrain along the way. She was a huge help to the success of Lewis and Clark.
  • Lewis and Clark traveled 7000 miles in total, 6000 of those miles were on water. They mainly traveled on the Missouri River, Ohio River, Yellowstone River, and the Columbia River. These rivers served as a "highway" for Lewis and Clark.

  • Lewis and Clark discovered over 150 plants along their journey. One of these plant is a well-known flower today, the northern sun-cup.

  • Lewis and Clark discovered an animal you might know today, the coyote. The coyote followed Lewis and Clark to the Pacific and back. They shot the first one. CLark called it a "Prairie dog".
  • On November 15, 1805, Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Volunteers for Northwestern Discovery reach the Pacific Ocean at the mouth of the Columbia River, one year, six months, and one day after leaving St. Louis, Missouri, in search of the legendary "Northwest Passage" to the sea.
