Oh no! The sun came out you're going to start melting
OH NO! We should've checked the weather!
I'll get something to carry you to a colder place!
One day a penguin named Dill and a snowman named Jasper were bored, so they decided to play volleyball to pass sometimes. They both loved water. In fact, Jasper was made of a different form of water! Even though Dill preferred ocean water, he got along with Jasper. That day, though, little did they know that something horrible was going to Jasper
Jasper was fine and healthy in his solid form, where all the little particles he was made of were packed tight and are only vibrating in place! Solids have a definite shape and volume. Jasper's molecules have a very strong attraction which causes him not able to flow and makes him a solid. But Dill noticed something - the sun was coming out! Dill knew that heat increased energy to particles, making them move around. That would mean that Jasper wouldn't be solid anymore! Dill was very afraid and wanted to do something, but a puddle was already beginning to form.
The temperature is getting too hot for Jasper to stay liquid!
Dill decided that he would bring Jasper to a cold place. When they would be back in the cold, Jasper's particles would slow down, making them solid and able to take shape again. Dill left to get something to carry Jasper in.
By the time Dill was back, Jasper had become a puddle! He was in his fully liquid state. Liquids have a definite volume but an indefinite shape. The particles that made him up are close to each other, and they are flowing freely. Since Jaspers particles are in liquid form the attraction between the particles is strong, but not so strong that they can still flow and move around each other. Dill carefully put the water in a bucket and set it on his way. With the power of the states of matter, he knew he could save his friend.
Its about drive, its about power! Gotta work fast!
Dill traveled far and wide, but in order to reach the beautiful cold place where there was no global warming, he had to pass through a hot one. Dill noticed that water started rising from the basket Jasper was in. The sun was heating up the particles more, making them move around fast. When Jasper was water, he took the shape of the bucket, but now, he would float away!
Dill has scored an A on his states of matter test, so he knew just what to do. He builds a cover for the bucket. Even though the gas would float around freely, it wouldn't escape the bucket.
My teacher would have been so proud of me if she was here. I built a dome to keep Jasper from floating away. Don't worry Jasper!
