Gatsby fires his servants because they were unfaithful and were gossiping about him. He wanted to ensure that his future servants wouldn’t gossip about him, so he perpetrated this plan to prevent further rumors and gossip.
The Plaza Hotel/Suite
Nick and Gatsby go to Tom's residence where they meet him, Daisy, and Jordan for a lunch. Daisy suggests that they go into town, and they agree. Tom insists that Gatsby and him swap cars, which he agrees to. Gatsby goes with Daisy alone, while Tom goes with Nick and Jordan.
Myrtle's Demise
Myrtle is jealous because she spots Tom and Jordan at a gas station and she mistakes Daisy for Jordan. This eventually leads to the issue with the car accident later in the chapter.
Accountability
Eventually, the group finds themselves at a suite in the Plaza Hotel, where Gatsby and Tom begin to argue. Tom accuses him of not being a man of his word and not being who he truly said he was, and Gatsby says that Daisy never loved him.
In this scene, Myrtle gets hit by a car. It is assumed that Daisy killed Myrtle because she was hit by her car. It is then known, that Daisy should not be blamed for Myrtles death because Myrtle jumped in front of Daisy’s car, which makes it her fault.
At Tom's house after the incident, Daisy, Tom, and Jordan all go back into the house while nick waits outside and finds Gatsby in the bushes. It is here that Gatsby decides to take the blame for Myrtle's death even though it wasn't truly his fault.
