  • Survival vs faith
  • THIS IS GODS CAT!!
  • When Pi's boat sinks, he can barely think. He is complete survival mode. All he can do is do his best to survive because his mind is too overwhelmed to do anything else.
  • After coming to terms with his circumstances, Pi begins to bring faith back into his life like it was before.
  • He prays daily and talks to God as he attempts to survive. He finds water and food and trains Richard Parker.
  • Pi also recognizes that he must let go of some of his old beliefs. For example, he must eat meat although him morals and religions tell him not do, because he will die otherwise.
  • When Pi comes across the island and discovers that it is carnivorous, he must use both his belief that he will survive and his actual survival skills to leave it and make his way towards land.
  • It is this combination of faith and survival that Pi ends up making it. In order to survive, one must possess both faith and survival strength, as the theme of this book shows.
