- The vendor accosted Horace as he was jostling his way through fredrick street and, sang out that he was offering for sale the one and only winning ticket. He got excited when the number was 1331 in the series 'H' . 13 was his lucky number . He immediately passed across 50 cents and put the ticket away.
- i am offering the one and only winning ticket and its for 50 cents
- He instantly recalled that 13 was his lucky number. Had he not been born on February 13th? He could not at the moment remember the exact month.
- Was it June or July?
- Horace was not only superstitious. He was also addicted to day dreaming. He began to reflect upon the many things he would do with the money.
- He would of course buy a nice-posh car a new chevrolet. Also he would purcahse a house in some good locality. In addition, there were quite a few people who he was eager to dazzle.
- Do you like my new car?
- I love it!
- He lost himself in his dreams. It was the sudden loud screeching of brakes that warned him but alas,too late! He was tossed and dragged for several yards along the roadway. to the accompaniment of horror-stricken cries from pedestrians.
- Horace regained consciousness a full forty-eight hours later to find himself lying bruised,battered and shaken. In the General Hospital. it was Constable Jones who had conducted the on-the-spot inquires. taking out his notebook. He jotted down the number of the vehicle it was a taxi. The number?.....H. 1331.
