During the rebellion, a lot of things happened! Revolts and protests occurred, and an area called Cap Français got burned up because of the French Armys' attack, needing a lot of people to evacuate in August 1791.
The war went on for more than five years! Britain, USA and other countries entered the war, but bailed after few months. They had the intentions of getting the land. Until January 1, 1804, the French Army surrendered, and Haiti wasn't a colony of France anymore, and slavery was starting to disappear.
The enslaved people's lives changed, for now, they had the right to life, liberty, and property. Citizenship also changed, for now, the country was able to be seen not only as an area of crops, but a country with people who have a life, and that they have the rights to do what they want in the law.Haiti still didn't have a organized government, so they had a lot of work to organize the country that was divided in North and South regions.
