At 21, Amy Winters was involved in a brutal motorbike accident.
Born on september 18th 1972, meadville Pennsylvania, Amy Winters lost a huge part of her left leg. She was told by everyone that she would never run again. And yet she proved everyone wrong.
Her passion for running and track never ceased. She went on to win numerous awards, run in ultramarathons and even won a James E. Sullivan award. This is the highest award an amature runner can receive.
she was always encouraged to play sports by her father. As a great athlete, he wanted his children to follow in his footsteps and take interest in sports. So, both her and her siblings played a number of sports. She specifically said that she clicked more with running then the rest of the other sports she played.

In May 2006, she ran her first race since the accident in the Cleveland marathon. In the first race, she broke the world record for the world’s best female amputee below the knee runner. However in the end, none of these awards and medals matter to her, only her family and children matter.
