  • Brutus' Speech - Ethos
  • "Believe me on my honor, and respect that honor so that you will believe me"
  • Brutus' Speech - Pathos
  • "Would you prefer that Caesar was alive and you al die as slaves, or that Caesar were dead and you live as a free man."
  • Brutus' Speech - Logos
  • "Live, Brutus! Live! Live!"
  • "Caesar was also ambitious, so i killed him."
  • Brutus uses Ethos in order to explain to the crowd that he is a credible source to listen to because he is speaking on his honor.  He asked the people to respect his honor and believe him for what he says. He introduces himself as one of the citizens and their friends in order to gain more trust.
  • Antony's Speech - Ethos
  • "With Brutus' permission for Brutus is an honorable man; they are all honorable men I come to speak at Caesars's funeral"
  • Brutus uses Pathos in this quote by appealing to the emotions of the audience on how their life will pan out. He asks them a rhetorical question about if they want to live a life of captivity, which appeals to their emotion of anger, or if they want to live a free and happy life which gets them excited.
  • Antony's Speech - Pathos
  • "You all saw that during the feast of Lupercal I presented him with a kingly crown three times, which he refused three times. Was that Ambition?"
  • Brutus uses logic in order to explain why he did what he did. This appeals to the audiences sense of logic and give them a valid reason in order to listen and agree with Brutus' speech.
  • Antony's Speech - Logos
  • "He brought many captives home to Rome whose ransoms enriched us all. Did this seem like ambition in Caesar?"
  • Antony establishes his credibility using ethos as he acknowledges that he is given permission to speak by Brutus, which is a man the people honor and love. Antony telling the people that Brutus has given him permission makes it much more likely for the citizens of Rome to trust and listen to what he has to say.
  • Antony uses pathos by recalling a moment to the crowd in which Caesar declines the crown 3 times and asking if Caesar was ambitious when doing this. He goes against Brutus' statement that Caesar was ambitious by telling the crowd about an example that they heard/witnessed in order to change the emotion they all had because of Brutus' speech into a feeling of rage and sympathy.
  • Antony uses reasoning and logic in order to back up his point that Caesar was not ambitious at all. He provides a point that Caesar brought back captives in order to get a ransom that would better the Romans and bring more money and resources to them. This reasoning/Logic is interpreted by the audience and provides them the ability to use there sense of logic to make an informed opinion.
