- Johnny, an apprehensive greaser, is talking about turning himself in for murder. Dally angrily yells at Johnny that he shouldn't because he doesn't want him to get hardened like him.
- We're goin back and turn ourselves in!
- It was just self-defense and I don't have a record with the fuzz.
- @%#& WHAT!!
- VVRRROOOMMMMM!!
- As Dally drives past the church Ponyboy realizes it is lit on fire. He jumps out the car with Johnny right behind him leaving Dally yelling for them to come back.
- Get back in this car bef-ore I beat your heads!
- Oh glory!
- Lets go see what the big deal is!
- Pony asks the man what was going on and he said that the church suddenly lit on fire. Ponyboy thinks they were the start of it when a woman comes up and tells the man a few children are missing.
- We were having a school picnic, and the next thing you know, the place is burnin up!
- Sir? What exa-ctly is going on here?
- Johnny and Ponyboy gallantly throw the kids who started the church fire out of the window to save them, only to get hurt by the falling embers of thechurch roof. Pony passes out in the grass and Dallas goes back in to save Johnny from getting crushed by the humongous roof.
- What did we do!?!?
- WWWAAAHHH!!!
- Shut up! We're going to get you guys out of here!
- Kid, relax, you're in an ambulance.Your friends are in the one right behind us. Gosh, you three are superheroes!
- After he keeled over, Pony wakes up to see Jerry Wood. He tells him he's taking him and his friends to the hospital and that he is very thankful for their help.
- Where am I? Where is Johnny and Dallas?
- Ponyboy leaps for the door to see none other than his brothers, Darry and Sodapop. He hugs Soda as tightly as he could and looks over at Darry. Darry starts crying and apologizes that he only works him tough because he cares about him. Pony grabshim and brings him closer to him. He realizes now that Darry loves him, maybe as much as he loves Soda.
- Ponyboy!! Golly...your hair! Your tuff lookin hair!
- Ponyboy, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have ever hit you like that. I thought we'd lost you...like we lost Mom and Dad.
- Soda!! Darry!! I'm so glad to see you!!
