Storyboard Text

  • Students get materials to make journal, begin writing, and begin short responses instructed by teacher
  • Learning Objective: Students will analyze journals of the naturalists they investigated without error
  • Today we will be going outside to learn the importance of journaling
  • Students, you will now look around the courtyard with "soft" eyes. Get a sense of the environment. Listen to the sounds, too. Think about how you feel and connect it to a past feeling or memory. 
  • Teacher reads an excerpt called "Windstorm in the Forest" to the students
  • Think about what you just heard, Who can tell me what was the author describing?
  •

  • Write a quick poem that describes how you feel in nature right now. You should use 2 of our daily vocab words
  • After you do your quick write, as a group, analyze a journal from a well-known naturalist and respond to the text by answering "What new knowledge and emotion did the author convey?"
  • Compare and contrast your journal to the naturalist's journal. What are the differences? Aside from feelings, why are these important in regards to nature?
  • Lastly, on your own, you are going to pick a naturalist's style to use to write about a favorite place, be detailed. Think of any organisms you saw and include that in your description
