Using total communication techniques in our classrooms is essential for all learners. From these videos, it was evident that we need to encourage functional communications through multiple different forms of assistive technology (e.g., picture exchange communication, devices)

In the video "Only God Can Hear Me," the boy talked about how "the world doesn't slow down to understand him." It is important to slow down and allow our students to be and feel heard. The boy also mentioned how people will say or make him feel like they are scared to be around him because of his disability. One way we can fix this as educators is to teach others how to support our students in communication.
In the video, "Maya Finds her Voice" they discussed how they went from a communication board to a word book to expand her language, but the preschool said she wasn't ready for a device. In this situation, the preschool should have at least trialed using a device and could have modified the picture icons according to her needs.
Another thing that stood out to me in the video, "Only God Can Hear Me" was when they discussed if the "icon has secondary iconidities." For example, how to discriminate between "water" and "i'm thirsty."

One thing that stood out to me in the video, "Apps for Autism" was how they discussed how students may prefer working from their device because the voice, tone, and speech is predictable. I had never thought about this before, but it makes so much sense to me.
I liked the video on the creative growth center because it showed how they really allow their students to express themselves and communicate with the world in a unique way.
