- Jennings mom takes him to "visit one of her friends." But she leaves him there after saying she will be right back
- The Home of the Angels
- Jennings's mom doesn't come back that night. A nun comes to take him to get ready for bed, she gives him a change of clothes and tells him his number is 27. She slaps him when he tries to take the paper of the toothbrush she gives him with his teeth.
- That's not the way we do things around here!
- Jennings kept getting in trouble because no one taught him the rules like when to sit or who to line up behind. He didn't get breakfast or lunch
- Jennings meets Mark who tells him he is at The Home of the Angels, a home for orphans and foster kids. He tells Jennings that he must be a foster kid, a kid who has parents but they don't want him no more.
- Mark shows Jennings how the nice nun hands out stuffed animals before bed. She gives Jennings a stuffed dog he names Doggie to sleep with. Mark gets his usual bear called Beary.
- When Jennings wakes up, Doggie is gone. Mark tells him the nuns take away the stuffed animals and lock them up after the kids go to sleep. Jennings doesn't like the fact they take away Doggie.
- They cage the animals at night! It's the rules.
