- Wow I always thought I was Irish hahah
- Your ancestors came from Quebec Canada and Enflied England. How cool!
- Hi Grandma, Mom told me I was from Canada and England. Can you expand?
- Also, your great grandmother, Valma Newland immigrated to the US from Enfield England after she met Arthur Turcotte your great grandfather during WWII
- Yes. Your great great grandparents Charles and Eveline immigrated to Salem, MA in roughly 1885 from Saint-Hyacinthe Quebec Canada
- So Arthur is Charle's son correct?
- Yes. Arthur met Valma on the dance floor in London because he got a rest during the war and was able to go out!
- Cool! I'll research what Saint-Hyacinthe and Enflied at home!
- What was life like in Salem?
- Your great great grandparents, Flossi and Arthur stayed in Enflied there whole life
- Well, Charles had a shoe factory but it closed from the Great Depression. Eveline and Charles were discriminated against by the Irish.
- Enfliend England lies next to 43 km of river in Middlesex county. Also known for its farmland and agriculture.
- Saint-Hyacinthe is on the Yamasks River, 60 miles east of Quebec. They are known for strong Agriculture and institutions.
- I am proud to be French Canadian and English. I will continue to appreciate the sacrifices of my ancestors and keep passing down recipes and knowledge I gained
- Enfield passed down the love of gardening from Valma to grandma to my mom! And I can't foget about the Steak and Kidney pie we eat on Thanksgiving!
- I used to play hockey in Quebec. I appreciate the passed on food recipes, like gallets and tourtiere and the willingness to immigrate!
