- Hi, I am Charlie Titus, let me show you how I discovered my ancestors.
- Hi mom, where did my ancestors come from?
- Oh wow! I always thought I was Irish haha
- Your ancestors came from Saint-Hyacinthe Quebec Canada and Enflied England!
- Hi grandma, mom said my ancestors are from Canada and England, can you expand?
- Yes, your great great grandparents Charles and Eveline Turcotte immigrated in roughly 1885 to Salem, MA from Saint-Hyacinthe
- Your great grandmother, Valma Newland, immigrated to the US from Enfield England after she met your great grandfather Arthur Turcotte during WWII
- How did Arthur and Valma meet during WWII?
- Arthur met Valma while on rest break so he went to London to dance and ended up meeting the love of his life!
- Thank you grandma! I'll do some research about what life is like today in Saint-Hyacinthe and Enfield
- What was life like in Salem for Charles and Eveline?
- Eveline passed down her favorite tourtiere pie which we eat every Christmas Eve. I also love gardening because Valma had a passion for it!
- They had 6 kids and Charles had a shoe factory but lost it during the Great Depression. They also were discriminated against by the Irish
- Enflied England lies next to 43 km of river in Middlesex county. Also known for its flat countryside land and strong agriculture
- Saint-Hyacinthe is located on the Yamasaka River, 60 miles East of Quebec. Known for strong agriculture and institutions
- I take pride in where I am from. I appreciate the sacrifices my ancestors made for their families. I want to leave an impact just like they did on me!
- Wow I used to play hockey in Quebec! I'll make sure to pass down the canadian recipes but I do not have many connections to Quebec today
- Enfield seems cool and I always wanted to go to England. I'll have to explore more about my ancestors Flossi and Arthur who lived there their whole life!
