- maria: if you tell her ladyship that you fear no colours, you would be giving a very bold reply betraying your folly
- Clown: let her hang me: he that is well hanged in this world needs to fear no colours
- Maria: No matter what you say, you will be hanged for having been absent for such a long time.
- Clown: When a man is hanged, heis at least prevented from getting married; and thatwould be a blessing because his marriage could haveproved an unhappy one
- clown: Let the fools display their folly in such a manner as to increase it, and thus to acquire more of it.
- Maria: Are you then determined not to give any explanation for your absence?
- Clown: Wit, and't be thy will, put me into goodfooling ! Those wits that think theyhave thee, do very oft prove fools: andI that am sure I lack thee, may pass fora wise man. For what says Quinapalus? 'Better a witty fool than a foolish wit.'God bless thee, lady !
- Clown; Do you not hear, fellows? Take away the lady
- Olivia: TAKE AWAY THE FOOL.
- Clown. That is a misunderstanding of the worstkind. Lady, a man does not become a monk just byputting on a monk's hood. What I mean to say isthat, although I am dressed in a fool's multi-colouredgarments, yet my brain is not a fool's brain. Goodlady, give me the permission to prove that you area fool.
- olivia: Do not bother me. You area dull-headed fool. I do not wish to have anythingmore to do with you. Besides, you are losing yoursense of responsibility.
- Olivia:PROVE IT!

- Clown: I would like o believe with the way you are mourning, i would guess his soul is in hell
- Lady you are more foolish than I am, morning someone's soul which is in heaven and therefore in a blessed state
- Clown: My lady what are you mourning?
