Nobody. Nobody at all. Not even my own foster parents knew about the people hiding. Because of that, I have no reason to think that anyone would think about this. I visited several different markets a day and didn't buy everything at the same place, I avoided the suspicion with the grocery shops too.
How did you manage to survive when you gave most of your things, like food away?
I had to buy a lot of food in the black market. My husband, Jan also helped me by providing me with ration cards he had held illegally. I also knew many suppliers, such as the greengrocer, who understood and knew what I was doing and would help as much as he could.
What was going through your mind when the Franks got caught?/Did you try to do anything to get them out?
When the police found the family hiding, I mainly felt very disappointed, that so close to the end of the war my friends and basically family at that time, were caught. We all honestly thought that we had made it. I did try to help, of course, even though it was basically impossible. One morning I was sitting and thinking, what can I do to save them? I looked up and saw a man holding me at gunpoint and saying Don't move” The next day I went to the police office to try to find them. I offered all money to buy them for free, but I did not accomplish it.
