- Peasants lives before the communist revolution were not good. They worked for very long hours, sometimes up to sixteen, with very little pay. The peasants didn't have much say in government and even their most basic needs were not met.
- The March revolution began with women textile workers striking against the Czar. Soon after that soldiers and officers joined what was now a rebellion. These riots forced Czar to step down from his throne. A provisional government is established.
- As the provisonary government is failing, a new power seeks authority. Lenin, the leader of the Bolsheviks, gain support during the October revolution which is also known as the Bolshevik Revolution.
- After Bolsheviks seize power, a civil war breaks out in Russia. The Red Army of communists face the White Army who are pro-Imperalists. The Red army ends up winning based on the fact they are more organized. There was much cruel behavior during this war such as burned towns, stolen property, and execution.
- When the Bolsheviks seized power not everyone wanted to follow them. There were two asasination attempts on Lenin so the Communist government responded with the red terror. The red terror was a campaign of killings, torture, and oppression to anyone who didn’t agree with the Bolsheviks.
- No more Bolsheviks
- When Lenin died in January of 1924 due to a stroke caused by a bullet lodged in his neck, someone named Joseph Stalin takes control. Before Lenin died, he had warned the government about Stalin.
