This is from chapter 2. Here is the library, and she is asking the librarian for a book recommendation. The librarian is not super happy about her asking, but Francie is happy to have If I Were King by Frank McCarthy instead of Beverly of Graustark which the librarian recommended more often.
Visting Floss Gaddis
This is the scene where Frank stopped his wagon and started to clean his horse. The kids behind the fence are throwing rocks and saying mean things, and in the top window, you can see Flossie calling out to him.
Costumes
In chapter 3, the majority of the time is spent with Francie ironing her fathers' union label out of his apron, and Johnny telling stories and smoking a cigar.
With Aunt Sissy
In chapter 4, Francie went to visit Floss Gaddis and Henny. Here, Flossie is talking to Henny telling him to sit on the roof and get more sunshine. He wants his mother to leave him alone. Henny is dying supposedly, and that's why Flossie said sitting outside was good for him.
Floss Gaddis was getting into the costume that she was going to wear at the masquerade ball. It's made of a purple satin sheath with cerise Tarleton underskirts. Ideally, there would be a green sleeve covering up her right arm which had been burned when she was younger. Francie was looking at the costumes and the umbrella prizes when she noticed something wrapped in a cloak with a skull and bony hands. She thought it was waiting for Henny when he died.
At the beginning of chapter 5, Sissy and Mama come home at 6:00 talking excitedly. SIssy also has a gift for Francie - a corn cop pipe that you could blow into so that a rubber hen came out! You can see Sissy holding this pipe in her right hand.
