Winfield Scott's army then had a victory at Vera Cruz, and made his way to the Mexican capital of Mexico City. There, he demanded a surrender, but Santa Anna did not accept. Though, the Mexican troops were tired of fighting and made Santa Anna resign as president, making the new Mexican Government accept the American demands. The treaty of Guadalupe had ended the war, making America win.

I call this, the Wilmot Proviso! It's to ban slavery in land gained in the war!
Meanwhile, while the war had still been happening, Representative David Wilmot had invented a plan that was known as the Wilmot Proviso. This had been attached to a bill that had been to pay for a portion of the war with the Mexicans and Americans. This also called for slavery to be banned in any land and territory that had been gained in the war.
