  • Townshend Act - 1767
  • Proclamation of 1763------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • The Proclamation of 1763 stated that the colonists could not move West of the Appalachian Mountains. Although this was intended to protect the colonists, the colonists viewed it as an attempt by Great Britain to control them.

  • This is so unfair! We fought in a 9 year war and we can't even move into the land we earned!
  • Boston Massacre - 1770
  • Give us this bedroom as well!
  • Give us food and beer! NOW!
  • Colonists had to provide basic needs to British soldiers. This included housing, meals, and alcohol. Colonists got very upset with this act, because the British soldiers were living in their private homes.
  • Quartering Act - 1765
  • Boston Tea Party - 1773
  • This act placed taxes on all printed materials in the colonies, and every printed item ahd to be marked with a stamp by English Officials. This act alone convinced many people that there was a need for action. This also caused the Sons of Liberty to form and unite to start making a plan for what they were going to do about Great Britian violating their rights.
  • What is this?! Everything that's made out of paper is being taxed?! This is ridiculous! We need to take some action!
  • Stamp Act - 1765
  • This act placed taxes on the colonies' imported goods, like glass, tea, paper, and lead. The colonies did not produce any of these goods, so they were required to pay their taxes.
  • These taxes are getting ridiculous!
  • The Boston Massacre was a clash between the colonists and British soldiers in Boston. Five colonists died in this conflict, with the first being Crispus Attucks. This also alerted the colonists that they needed to do something quickly, because otherwise, the situation would only get worse.
  • The Boston Tea Party was organized by Sam Adams and the Sons of Liberty, and it was to protest the Tea Act. Some colonists dressed as Indians, and they dumped British tea into the Boston Harbor.
