Fear and suspicion describe the people of Maple street because they find suspicion in every person for silly little things, they fear that if they don't do anything they will lose so they go ahead on accusing people and it goes on and on and eventually turns into madness. Less Goodman's car turned on. Right away people started accusing him, just because his car turned on. Thoughts run through everyone's head thinking that his car turned on, he's probably at fault for the power going off. The people of maple street let their fear take over, instead of working together they decided to blame someone for their fear to go away. Less goodman wasn't guilty, the only thing that happened was his car turning on and everyone freaking out. The same thing happened again, Charlie accused steve of having a radio and talking to bad people. Steve sarcastically said I talk to three-headed green men who fly over here in what looks like meteors. Mrs. Brand defended steven saying that it's just a ham radio, lots of people have it. Charlie was suspicious of steve and he was in fear, so the right thing in his mind was to blame steve when steve wasn't guilty of anything. The same situation kept repeating its self. the people of maple street started to go crazy. The lights started to flicker, they all started blaming each other, everyone was against everyone. Lights went on in Charlie's house, they all blamed him so the only way for him to get out of the situation was to blame someone else, he blamed Tommy and everyone of course agreed. Then they all found accusations against Tommy, and it just kept going back and forth. The residents of maple street lost it, the only problem was them. Turns out there were aliens. The aliens didn't use weapons, bombs, all they did was turn off the power and play with it, that was all enough to make the humans crazy.

The lights started to flicker in almost every house, they would turn on and off. They were all screaming, accusing each other, talking over everyone so much you couldn't hear what one person had to say.
