Hamilton attended a ball where he met the Schulyer sisters. Eliza and Hamilton began to send each other letters and fell in love. Hamilton asked Eliza's father for her hand in marriage and the two soon got married, as seen in the scene. Angelica, Eliza's older sister, has secret feelings for Hamilton.

The American colony and the British troops are undergoing battle. The general, George Washington, seems to be helpless because his soldiers keep retreating and Congress doesn't seem to be of much help. Hamilton and his friends aid the fight by stealing cannons. Washington calls Hamilton into his office. He dismisses a hopeful Burr and asks Hamilton to be his right hand man. Hamilton accepts and begins to aid Washington.

After the wedding, Hamilton has a conflict with a general who opposes Washington. He gets Laurens to duel him. Washington finds out and is angry. Washington sends Hamilton back home and Hamilton finds out Eliza is expecting. The war is still raging when Lafayette convinces Washington to get Hamilton back on the field of battle.
