  • As a result of the pope's public announcement, about 30,000 men joined The Crusades
  • 
  • This First Crusade was really successful for the Christians. They conquered Jerusalam and established 4 kingdom that were located in former Muslim territories.
  • Pope Urban II called for a Second Crusade. This Crusade was a great defeat for the Muslims. This started with the loss of Edessa and then things escalated from there and just got worse. A crusader army from Germany was defeated. Then French Crusaders were defeated at Jerusalem, soon after this event. the Second Crusade ended.

  • A couple decades after the second crusade ended, most of Muslim lands came under a rule. Sultan Salah al-Din rallied the Muslims and took back Jerusalem. Meanwhile, an English king was battling Jerusalem. His name was King Richard I. AKA: Richard The Lionheart. The two leaders eventually came to a truce. This concluded the third crusade.

  • The later the fights for the holy land were mostly unorganized movements by peasants rather than organized military efforts. As an example, in 1212, thousands and thousands of children marched towards the Holy Land and now it is known as the Children's Crusade. Almost none of them made it to the Holy Land.
