  • Good morning class! Today were going to understand the process of cellular respiration that helps us carry out tasks requiring energy and to be able to function properly
  • There are 4 main parts of cellular respiration and they are:1. Glycolysis2. pyruvate oxidation3. kreb's cycle4. Electron transport chain
  • To start off with glycolysis, it is composed of 10 steps which result in the splitting of glucose into 2 pyruvate molecules
  • Then, pyruvate oxidation happens and it has 3 steps: Decarboxylation, Redox reaction, Addition of CoA.The pyruvate made from glycolysis leaves the cytoplasm and moves into themitochondria matrix by active transport, then transports across the mitochondrial membrane via a transport protein.
  • After that, theherb cycle takes place. The 2 acetyl-CoA will face 8 reactions in the cycle, which would result in Co2 as waste and would give NADH and FADH2
  • The final step of cellular respiration is the electron transport chain, where the NADH and FADH2 produced lose their electrons. Then these electrons go through the ETC and join an O2 and H+ to form a water molecule
