- After being robbed, Santiago decides to find a job. Santiago has some good ideas for a crystal shop, so the crystal merchant hired him so that he could get some money. The Crystal Merchant was turning down Santiago's dream to go to Egypt because of his own experience. Santiago worked for him for over 11 months, and then, in the end, the Crystal Merchant approved of Santiago's dream and let him go to find his legend.

- Santiago meets the Englishman who will be driving him to the desert on his caravan. Despite their differences, the Englishman and Santiago managed to get along and learn from one another.
