- A 45-year-old Chinese patient is coming for a Chest x-ray

- Hello i am Lee Shapho a first year radiography student from CPUT i will be doing your chest x-ray.
- I must find a way to communicate to the patient to introduce myself and confirm his identity

- Explaining the procedure to the patient

- I have a chinese patient coming in for a chest x-ray and it looks like the patient does not understand any of my spoken language . There is no one in the department who knows their language and the patient is also not accomponied by someone who knows english.
- I demonstrated what i expected them to do
- Since there is no one available to translate i have to find another way of communicating, so i will demonstrate what i need my patient to do and use the google translator when needed.To confirm the patients identity and to introduce myself i used the translator
- The patient now understands what they need to do
- I explained the procedure in Chinese on the laptop through google translator. i also explained that after the translation i will demonstrate how he should lay against the Bucky and how he should position himself for the chest x ray
- we are now done with the x-ray i tell my patient dress up and instruct them on where to go next
- The patient now understands what they have to do as the computer translator has explainesd and they nodded their head to agree. I am now demonstrating the kind of position i excpect them to be in.
- The patient is positioned for the chest x-ray and i have explained that i will be going to the control room to start the x-ray so they understand why i am leaving the room.
- After the procedure i went back to the room to tell my patient where to go next and since we still have the language barrier i used my lapton to translate the message and waved them goodbye.
