  • Abigail lies in court in Act 3. This strongly suggests to the court that Elizabeth Proctor is a witch who stabbed Abigail using the poppet as a voodoo doll. Abigail uses the persuasion technique of ¨logos¨, because Abigail was the Proctor´s servant and would have known what they had and what they didn't have in their house.
  • To save herself, Abigail uses the persuasion technique of ¨pathos¨, so the judge and people around her can feel bad for her. When Abigail gets questioned about how Elizabeth is a witch and about the happenings in the woods, she pulls her ¨feel bad for me¨ card to make her seem like she is telling the truth. This quote shows Abigails conflict of ¨character vs self¨. This conflict is described as a type of conflict that takes place inside a character's mind. Self literary conflict usually involves the main character's inner struggle with self-doubts, a moral dilemma, or their own nature. Abigail is torn between keeping the game going and telling the truth in order to prevent people from being killed. Abigail keeps playing games with Salem in order to gain power and control. This gives her the opportunity to accuse Elizabeth of witchcraft and have her executed.
  • Abigail is threatening Danforth, telling him that if he doesn't stop questioning the validity of her accusations, she will accuse him of witchcraft. She is using the persuasion technique of ¨pathos¨ to persuade the judge and community. Abigail is trying to scare the judge to further make him accuse/question Elizabeth and not her. This quote shows the conflict ¨character vs character¨. This conflict happens when two characters have motivations, desires, needs, or beliefs that place them in opposition with each other. (Abigail vs Danforth)
