“Chad, we have a big game coming up and I know this is your second time being caught with alcohol. I am going to give you another warning. Next time you are caught you will be kicked off the team.”
“Chad, we have a big game coming up and I know this is your second time being caught with alcohol. I am going to give you another warning. Next time you are caught you will be kicked off the team.”
“I know, Sir. I made a mistake and let my friends talk me into taking a drink. I promise to never drink again at a house party. I just got caught up in all the fun we were having listening to music and talking.”
“You’re a great athlete Chad. Don’t ruin it by doing stupid things. This could ruin your future college career. I would hate to see that happen. See you at the game! Goodluck!
“Everyone time for a water break!”
Friends of Chad: (all hanging around him with curious looks on their faces) What?
Chad:Hey guys guess what I have?
Chad: I brought Vodka in my water bottle instead of water today. How awesome is that? I am sure it will make me play hard and physical and be a star. Well, I’m always a star, but this will make me a Super Star."
Friends: Yes, this is so lit. It will totally make all of us play better too. We are gonna with the Championship, no doubt!!!!!
Jimmy: “Studying for my trig test tomorrow. I need to get a good score so I can get into Princeton next year.”
Chad: “Dude, did you just not hear me? I am the man. That is very unlikely for me to get a DUI or in an accident. The AD and I are like this (fingers crossed) I can talk my way out of any situation with teachers, coaches, AD’s and even police, you watch. They all know it is about me and I am the only one that can get us this Championship.”
Chad: (To Jimmy) “What are you doing?”
“No that’s stupid. I don’t know why you ruin a chance to play in the Championship game. Everyone looks up to you and you never get in trouble. I need to drive home from practice and I’m not going to put my life or others at risk for stupid drinking.”
Chad: “Bruh, that is so lame. How about you partaaay with me and I show you a real good time. Have a drink of my water….it will make you a great player, way better than you are now”
Jimmy: “I wonder what the Athletic director is going to say about that when you get into a car accident or a DUI!
Chad: “Dude, I am THE MAN. Nothing ain’t gonna stop me from winning that Championship this weekend. Whatever, dude I can still drive home.”
Coach: “Water break is over! Time to show us if you are ready to play this weekend or not”
Game in the 4th quarter: Chad (the Quarterback) catches a great pass and gets tackled hard by a player from another team. He is down and struggles to get up, but his knee is to badly injured, he is unable to walk. He is carried off the field by his teammates.
Coach: I can’t believe this is happening. We are so close to winning the game and our guy gets injured. How does this happen? (stressing out and pacing around in circles, throwing his headset) What am I going to do now? We have no other options.”
Coach: (angry and frustrated)”We can't afford to lose this game, go sit down.”
Jimmy: “Coach put me in! I have been working hard, I’ve been at every practice! I know every play! I have been working and thinking about this game all of my life. I have been waiting all night to play in the game!”
Coach: “Jimmy, you are our last option. Please don’t mess this up. I don’t really think you can do it, but you are going to get a chance”
Jimmy: “You won't regret it, Coach. I’ve been working so hard and I just know I can win this game for us and the championship”
Coach: “Jimmy, YOU DID IT!!!! I AM SO PROUD WE WON!!”
Jimmy: “I believe coaches should take into consideration their own personal behavior and the student athlete's behavior and set specific boundaries and goals to make each and every student a better student and athlete and not look to the star or to winning at all costs. I know that some athlete’s make poor choices and because of their “stardom” they are not held accountable. Competition is good and healthy in most cases.”
