Storyboard Text
- Elphaba is born in a small Munchkin village. Everyone hates her because she is green. She has a hard childhood but loves her younger sister Nessarose (who is in a wheelchair) very much.
- When Elphaba and Nessa grow up, they attended college at the prestigious Shiz University. Elphaba is ridiculed because of her skin. She meets popular girl Galinda. The headmistress of the school is impressed with Elphaba's magic ability.
- A few weeks into school the arrival of Fiyero, a prince, stirs up drama when Galinda meets him. They immediately arrange a party. Elphaba doesn't like Fiyero for his "devil may care" attitude and playboy reputation. Likewise, this attracts Galinda.
- At Fiyero's party, Galinda tricks Elphaba into wearing a black witches hat. Elphaba is humiliated, and Galinda feels bad when she realizes Elphaba was helping her gain prestige at Shiz. They go back to the dorm and get to know each other, and become close friends. Galinda tries to give Elphaba a makeover to make her "popular"
- The next day, Elphaba talks to Dr.Dillamond, her teacher who is an Animal. She learns that the Animals are losing their speaking powers. Later in class, the wizard's soldiers come and arrest Dr.Dillamond saying Animals are no longer allowed to teach. They then bring in a trapped lion cub in a cage. Elphaba is horrified and casts a spell on the class to freeze them.
- Elphaba realizes she froze everyone except Fiyero. They run out to the woods to free the lion, and Fiyero tells her he is self centered and careless. Elphaba tells him he's not, or else he wouldn't be so unhappy. This shocks him, and he realizes there is more to Elphaba than he realized. She also realizes this about him, and they both are confused about their feelings toward each other.
