Gina's story from the reading and presentation was very inspiring. It showed that no matter what, Gina's parents did what they can to help Gina be the best she can be with SLOS and have the best educational setting for her. Gina's parents highlighted her strengths to the world, and Gina unknowingly inspired others.
From taking Gina across the world to Ukraine and Mexico for support, to moving homes, to providing resources, Gina's family shows how dedicated they were to continually unconditionally loving and caring for Gina. They see her an individual, and not as illness. She is a strong member of her community, and "It is because of Gina" and her lasting impact that have influenced people in many ways such as finding love, career choices, or job interviews. Gina's family never gave up on her, and it is inspiring how support and care can change people's lives. As a future teacher it inspires me because I will strive to support my students the best that I can to help them achieve greatness.
As a future teacher, four ways that I will help parents share their voice is to continually have open communication with the families about their child, to have workshops for parents to share their ideas at, meet the teacher night/open house, and having parent-teacher organized events for parents to participate in with their child so that parents can share their voice to me and to the school. Parents are vital in their child's education and the school community. Their voices must be heard.
