Storyboard Text

  • Once there was a man named Tom and a woman named Robyn. They were in love for years. One day, Tom proposed. Robyn was so excited and she said yes, but only if Tom converted to Judaism because Robyn was Jewish and Tom was not. Tom was not happy with the idea of converting to another religion, but he loved Robyn so he considered it.
  • Tom decided to tell Robyn that he was going to convert and Robyn was extremely happy. They were planning on going to the Rabbi the next day because they wanted to start the conversion process and finish it before they got married.
  • Robyn and Tom went to Rabbi Nechemia. He told them that they could not convert for ulterior motives, such as marriage. Rabbi Nechemia told them that marriage is not a valid reason for converting to Judaism because you are not converting to truly become Jewish, you are converting for another person and Judaism does not really matter to you. Tom and Robyn left the Rabbi's. Tom was very sad because he thought that Robyn would not want to marry him anymore.
  • That night, Robyn and Tom sat and talked about converting. Robyn was so upset because she wanted to marry Tom so badly but she absolutely needed him to be Jewish. Tom told her that it would be okay and they could go to another Rabbi the next morning to get a second opinion. Robyn agreed and they went to bed, praying that the next Rabbi would allow Tom to convert.
  • The next day, Tom and Robyn went to Rav. He told them that Tom could absolutely convert for marriage because if he really loved Robyn and was willing to convert and go through the entire process just for her, then he is a good person and deserves to be Jewish. As long as he knows the challenges that Jews have faced in the past and accepts them, he is a valid convert.
  • The day of conversion came. Tom was ready to be converted to a Jew and Robyn was excited for him. Tom read the list of all the things he needed to do to become a Jew: Be immersed in the mikveh, be circumcised, and learn the laws of the Torah along with three witnesses.

  • A little while down the road, Robyn and Tom got married. It was the happiest day of their lives. Not only were Robyn and her parents happy that their children would grow up 100% Jewish, but Tom was glad that he converted because it made Robyn happy and it made him happy that they would be raising their children one religion, rather than two and having their children grow up confused because they believe in two faiths.
  • 2 kids later and one on the way, Robyn and Tom remembered the time Tom converted to Judaism. Tom sometimes felt guilty for converting just for marriage, but at least it wasn't for a job or to be on the royal board because that would not have been allowed by Rabbi Nechemia. They were a very happy family and raised their family to be Jewish.
  • Robyn and Tom kept their home kosher and followed all of the holidays, including Shabbat, because they remembered that if they did not, there would be repercussions.
