- During the Reign of Terror and Robespierre's leadership, the churches were closed and a new belief system was created with Robespierre as the head of the new belief system. After his death the churches were able to reopen their doors to allow the people to worship.
- Napoleon's Coup D'Etat

- After the execution of Robespierre and the end of the Reign of Terror an new legislative body was formed. The Directory was made up of two houses with five men as directors or heads of the new legislative body. Under the Directory the French military had a great deal of success under the leadership of General Napoleon. However, the Directory failed to resolve the economic problems in France.
- Under the direction of Napoleon the French army was successful at defeating Austria in 1797, However,in 1799 with help from Russia, Turkey and Great Britain, the Austrians were able to drive back the French Army.
- Napoleon rose through the ranks of the military and under his direction France fought successfully against their enemies. The Directory had some success like creating a system of elite centralized schools, and the successes of the French army. However, in 1799 Napoleon returned to France and overthrew the government.
- This is a coup d'etat.
