Hi! I'm Alexander Hamilton, and today I will be teaching you about "The Whiskey Rebellion"
In march of 1791, I decided to start a tax to help pay for the federal dept. I also wanted to test the power of or government
Sadly, some people disagreed with my tax. Especially western Pennsylvania.
Money there was was very minimal at the time, and they did not believe that it would protect settlers in any way.
And with that, my story ends.
They used their corn crops to make whiskey, and would transport the corn because it was easier than whiskey. I was very upset about this act.
At first their complaints remained peaceful. Then in 1794, war broke out among us. Farmers where extremely angry about this tax, and severely injured some of my people by feathering them with hot tar!
Our president George Washington decided that he would have no more, and wanted to end all of the fighting. So he decided to form an army to stop the fighting.
George Washington lead the army himself to stop all of this nonsense. With him, he had about 13,000 men o help him with his job.
When George and his men arrived at western Pennsylvania, in 1794, most of the rebels had fled not wanting a battle.
Luckily, the Whiskey Rebellion ended without a war, and the tax was no more. Finally leaving us at peace.
