- Analogy
- Today, class we will be doing our presentation of our vocabulary. I expect them to be well prepared since I will be grading this harshly. My example is Analogy. The definition of Analogy is a comparison between two things to clarify or explain two things. My example is "Life is like a box of chocolates- you never know what you're gonna get." You may not use my example, I hope you are prepared >:)
- Paradox
- Very good Sarah!
- Hello my name is Sarah, My presentation will be the word paradox. The definition of Paradox is a self-contradictory statement which reveals a deeper meaning. My example is "This is the beginning of the end." meaning this may be the end for a part of my life but it is a beginning of another chapter.
- Dialect
- Hi! As many of you know my name is Melissa Rogers! My presentation is the word Dialect!! The definition of Dialect is um..... the particular um...form of language? that is confined a group or a region or um expressing oneself?.. My example is um "Southern Americans may say 'howdy' in the regions they live in while Northern Americans will say 'Hello or Hi.' These are examples of Dialect and there are various examples around the World.
- Melissa please work on your posture and try practicing on your speech. Overall, you did good.
- Euphemism
- Hello my name is Cedric Jennings, my presentation is based of Euphemism. The definition of Euphemism substitution of a pleasant expression for an unpleasant or offensive one. An example would be using “Passed away” instead of “died” or “Let go” instead of “fired”
- Anaphora
- Hi my name Jordan and my presentation is based of um that Anaphora. The definition of Anaphora is um the repetition of a word or phrases at the start of successive clauses. An example is the use of because in the beginning of each sentence in the story we read.
- Could have been better Jordan. A better example would be Martin Luther King saying "So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire." in his "I have a Dream speech.
