Shut up Jill! What do you mean its not good for you?
If you spend too much time on social media, you can do a lot of damage to your mental health, due to the amount of malicious comments, comparisons, rivalries, among others. Kids like you are seeking validation from likes and getting dopamine from social media. This leaves a negative effect because it leaves them anxious about posts and wondering if they are good enough.
Ugh, Mom! I don't care.
Abby, real life connections are more valuable and teach you more. It is essential to learn social skills and have real life experiences. People gain a lot through real life experiences, and it is important that they know how to truly communicate with others ,as well as overcome difficulties. There is value in learning social skills and cues that will help you later in life.
But Mom, social media sites offer multiple daily opportunities for me to connect with friends, classmates, and people with shared interests. Social media, allows teens to stay connected with friends and family, make new friends, share pictures, and exchanging ideas. Many platforms let me and my friends connect and share things over long distances!!!
Well, Abby, although social media allows you to connect with others,” many apps able anyone to send anything. This can be harmful because of sexually explicit content or unwanted messages from strangers”. Social media is filled with lots of horrible things, and your information can be left in the open. If you are cyberbullies, sexually harassed, or contacted in unwanted ways it can lead to lack of sleep, depression, and anxiety. In order to stay safe you should limit time spent on social media and keep information and accounts private.
I agree! Social media can be dangerous for your mental health!
Abby decides to set limits for herself and engage more. She happily goes outside without her phone and meets with her friends in person, and her dog appreciates it too!
