Life's WorkIn 1675 Duluth went to Montreal, Canada. In 1678 Duluth and seven other people secretly left Montreal. They went to the Lake Superior area and traveled along the Ottawa river. Once they reached Lake Huron they tried to convince the Native American tribes to make peace with all other nations nearby, and live under the French control.

Later YearsIn June 1680 Duluth found out that the Sioux captured the Catholic priest. Duluth demanded release but broke many laws in the process. Duluth was forced to go back to Canada, then France in 1681 to defend himself. Duluth returned to the Lake Superior area to convince Native Americans not to trade furs with the English. Between 1686 and 1689 Duluth built forests to ensure New France was in charge of Great Lakes area.
