- ”It was about eleven o’clock at night and she was walking alone, when a boy ran up behind her and tried to snatch her purse.”
- I hope she lets me run away
- This boy isn't going to get away with it
- ”The large woman simply turned around and kicked him right square in his blue-jeaned sitter.”
- He's going to get to know my real me
- I didn't really think this was going to get that far
- “You ought to be my son. I would teach you right from wrong. Least I can do right now is to wash your face. Are you hungry?”
- I think I need to try and trust a bit this woman becuae she only tries to help me
- I need to be the kindest I can be so he trusts me and I can help him
- A young teen,Roger,unsuccessfully attempts to steal a powerfully built woman’s purse as she walks home from work late at night on the streets of Harlem,New York.
- ”Then, Roger, you go to that sink and wash your face,” said the woman and “Let the water run until it gets warm,” she said. “Here’s a clean towel.”

- I think this boy is going to learn and at least not make the same mistake as me
- Afterwards, she kicks Roger in the ass, and grabs him in a Half-Nelson, which immobilises him and makes him completely useless. She tells him she’s calles Mrs Luella Bates Washington Jones
- “The woman did not watch the boy to see if he was going to run now, nor did she watch her purse which she left behind her on the day-bed.”
- She's trying to put me on trial but I prefer gaining her trust
- He needs to know I want him to trust him so lets put him on trial to see if he runs away or he doesn't
- She then tells him that she’s going to get him to wash his face and that she will teach him a lesson, just as if she was her mother. She tells him that she won’t tell the police or anything, instead she will teach him her own lesson.
- The boy wanted to say something other than, “Thank you, m’am,” to Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, but although his lips moved
- I am very gland to have met Ms. Jones y have learnt how to do things well and I have my money I am very happy but at the same time sorry about trying to steal people
- She then takes him to her small house in a headlock all of the way, so he won’t escape, and the house look inhabited by other people and she makes him wash his face with warm water, to look presentable and nice
- She then prepared dinner for him, even though he refused it. At this time the boy was also put on trial, as she purposely left her handbag in the bed and left the boy alone with an easy escape.
- The boy was so intimidated that he didn’t dare to escape, and he passed the trial. Afterwards he had dinner with her and the boy was very appreciative. When they finished eating, Mrs Jones gave Roger 10 dollars to buy the shoes he wanted, which was like a dream for Roger, so he was very grateful and he said goodbye by saying ‘Thank you Ma’m’.
