- Maui was a Demi-God who lived in Hawaiiki. he had powers that not all his family knew about
- One day he hid at the bottom of his brother's boat in order to go fishing with them. Once Maui felt they were far enough out he was soon discovered by his brothers, but they were not able to take him back to shore as maui was using his powers making the shoreline seem much further away then is was
- So the brothers continued rowing, when they were far enough out into the ocean Maui dropped his magic fish hook over the side of the waka. After a long time Maui felt a strong tug but too strong to be a normal-sized fish, so Maui called his brothers over to help.
- After much pulling, suddenly the surface of Te Ika a Maui. Know today as the North Island of New Zealand Maui said o his brothers God might be mad with me so stay here well I go make peace with God.
- However, when Maui went to make peace with God his brothers started to begin to argue among themselves about who gets to keep the land. They took out their weapons and started pounding at the land the blows on the land created mountains and valleys of the North Island today
