  • Oh no, it's so disturbing seeing Jaden like this. What is happening ?
  • Guys, I am feeling dizzy and nauseous. Can you call my parents?
  • Relax Jaden, once we reach school, you can seek help. Don't worry Rob, it's the effect of alcohol.
  • Alcohol is a depressant drug. It is taken orally and alcohol abuse is one of the most serious problems in our society. Jaden got into a bad company of college students two years back . He suffers from memory loss and has been caught drunk in school and suspended for a week for talking inappropriately.
  • So sad the boy needs stomach pump.
  • Do you know any facts about alcohol ? How and when did Jaden got addicted to it ?
  • Alcohol travels through the bloodstream. Drinking too much overloads the liver. It may result in high BAC percentage, high amounts of ethanol in the bloodstream, widening of blood vessels causing warmness of skin and dampens brain capabilities. It is so toxic that it may cause liver problems like cirrhosis, digestive problems like ulcers, heart problems, high BP and certain cancers . Minors use it to relax, remove their inhibitions and become cheerful, without realizing its dangerous impact.

  • Jaden, Rob and Mark are high school students of St. Thomas School in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong. Rob is scared to observe Jaden feeling dizzy and nauseous inside the school bus. Mark comforts Jaden that he can seek help in school's health room and return home. He informs Rob that Jaden is a minor but is an alcohol addict and this is one of the many impacts of alcohol consumption.
  • There are so many risks in drinking. Alcohol suppresses judgement, reasoning, speed and reaction time. It may cause severe car accidents. Drinking alcohol would intoxicate the minors by making them addicts and poison their bodies too. That's why they tremor and are delirious. The influence of alcohol confuses them, slurs their speech and blurs their vision.
  • Jaden's parents are present outside the school premises with an ambulance. Jaden's father is angry that he has to leave an important meeting to be there while Jaden's mother is trying to speak to him that Jaden needs medical help as it was the fourth time in a matter of two weeks that he is admitted to hospital due to alcohol poisoning, vomiting and blurred vision issues.
  • Thought of the day "Drinking alcohol is not suitable for minors."
  • Mark shows Rob how alcohol can damage the health of an individual on his phone. He tries to inform Rob about alcohol and its harmful impact as he was unaware of it and felt afraid seeing Jaden like that. He informs Rob as to how alcohol can cause malnutrition, overweight and make a person addict.
  • Can we reduce the harm anyway, if someone choose to drink ?
  • Of course, there are safe and practical ways. . Do not drink on an empty stomach, limit your intake of drinks, choose drinks with lower alcohol content, never drink and drive and take sips rather than gulps.
  • Before the beginning of class, Rob's mind was preoccupied with thoughts of how dangerous alcohol consumption is for minors and was feeling anxious and scared by the harmful impact it can have on the physical and mental health of adolescents.
  • Sister Mary clearly explained the seventh graders as to how alcohol consumption is not good for minors and if one ignores the advice, one may have to seek help at rehabilitation center like Jaden. She urged them to seek help at school (teachers, counselors) or in community(doctors, therapists), if they are faced with issues of peer pressure, emotional turmoil and academic stress that may urge them to take depressants or stimulants.
  • On their way back to school, Mark explains to Rob the ways in which harm can be reduced from drinking alcohol and comforts him by stating that there are alcohol treatment centers like The Cabin in HK , Tung Wah hospitals. There are free services like AA(Alcoholics Anonymous) that provide aftercare process, individual counselling and therapy centers in Central. Besides, there are friends and family who are always there to help. We should learn from Jaden's case.
