I AM A WELL ACCOMPLISHED GENERAL. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING BUT MY RACE.
WHY WOULD SHE MARRY THAT MOORE? SHE HAD SO MANY LOVELY SUITORS
HOW DARE YOU MARRY MY DAUGHTER. I DO NOT APPROVE OF THIS. HOW HAVE YOU CORRUPTED AND CONVINCED HER TO DO THIS.
In "Othello" by Shakespeare, the issue of interracial couples is shown all throughout the story. Desdemona marries Othello, a successful general, yet their marriage is frowned upon. People cannot understand why Desdemona would want to marry a black man, when many other people would have married her. They look past all of Othello's accomplishments and only view him as his race. The issue of not accepting interracial relationships is still prevalent today, but it is much more accepted. Today, most people are accepting of all couples, regardless of gender or race. However, while it has improved, there is still more work to be done in creating an all accepting society.
