The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme : Man kind is its own enemy
One of the main themes in The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street by Rod Serling is don't assumes or jump to conclusions, because in page 83 Charlie said but ... but I didn't know who he was. I certainly didn't know who he was.He comes walking out of the darkness - how am I supposed to know who he was . Steve you know why I shot! how am I supposed to know he wasn't a monster or something? We're all scared of the same thing. I was just tryin' to... tryin' to protect my home, that's all I was tryin' to do.I didn't know it was someone we knew! I didn't know. This paragraph explains that since Charlie was so scared and even though he was just trying to protect his home he was focusing on who the person or monster was and since he was so nervous it cost him to shoot someone he knew.Another evidence in page 83-84 a women said Charlie...Charlie... the lights just went on in your house. Why did the lights just go on? Don: What about it,Charlie?how come you're the only one with the lights now? Goodman: That's what I'd like to know. You were so quick to kill,Charlie, and you were so quick to tell us who we had to be careful of.Well ,maybe you had to kill.Maybe Peter there ws trying to tell us something .Maybe he'd found out something and came back to tell us who there was amongst us we should watch out for- Charlie: No...no...it's nothing of the sort! id not know why the lights are on.I swear I dont. somebody pulling a ga or something. Steve: A gag? A gag? Charlie, there's a dead man on the sidewalk and you killed him! Does this thing look like a gag to you? This paragraphsupports my claim because everyone is starting to lose it and accusing Charlie because his lights went on in his house so Charlie had to defend himself because people started to grow suspicion on him. Lastly in page 84 this paragraph is describing what they are doing and what is happening A man breaks away from the crowd to chase Charlie. The man tables him and lands on top of him.The other people start to run toward them.Charlie is up on his feet.He breaks from the other mans grasp and lands a couple of desperate punches that push the man aside. Then he forces his way, fighting though the crowd to once again break free. This paragraph explains how the people start to fight and try and capture Charlie to hurt him which explains that they don't even know for sure if Charlie is a monster but start to beat him up because they are scared and its causing them to jump to conclusions . In onclousin this is why you shouldn't assume things because something so small can turn huge
