- ''To suspect every night, just at Twelve, I looked in upon him as he slept.''
- I had my head in, and was about to open the lantern when my thumb slipped upon the tin fastening and the old man sprang up in bed, crying out
- Whos there?
- I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture—a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees—very gradually—I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever.
- In an instant i dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him
- The narrarator would peak at the old man sleeping every night for 7 nights just to see the old man with his eyes always closed
- I then took up three planks from the flooring of the chamber, and deposited all below the scantlings. I then replaced the boards so cleverly, so cunningly, that no human eye could detect anything wrong
- The narrartor was about to sneak into the old man's room but accidentally made a loud noise and the old man sprung up in his bed in terror
- The Narrator picks up the bed and is over the old man about to drag it over him, and kill him.
- The Narrator is hiding the body after he dismembered it in the tub, under the floor boards.
